A child who concentrates is emmensely happy

ABOUT US

The Orleans Montessori Children’s House is located in a beautiful quiet area of Cumberland.  In addition, to the Montessori curriculum, our school strongly promotes an appreciation of nature and French.

Through outdoor play and daily activities, the child learns to appreciate the benefits of Mother Nature. Every winter we exercise while cross-country skiing on the school property. During our winter carnival all sorts of outdoors fun activities are scheduled. We also have a winter camp for the older children.  In the fall we have excursions in the nearby wooded area and learn about trees and why the leaves change colors. In the springtime, we garden and learn about plants and flowers.

French is promoted through our bilingual program. Emphasis is on the child’s first language, with exercises to introduce the second language.  In the class one teacher speaks French to the children and the other speaks English.  The children are introduced to the second language in this natural way.  Both English and French are a part of their daily life:  playing and working.  We feel this is the best way to learn a second language.

The Orleans Montessori Children’s House offers: – a half day (9:00 to 12:00),
– an extended day  (9:00 to 3:30)   -a full day  program(8 :00 to 5 :00). All programs run five days a week. Since it is our aim and objective to promote a sense of order and routine, we feel it is both important and beneficial for the child’s development to attend five days a week.

For admittance into the toddler program, the child should be 18 months or older.  For our casa program, children should be 2.5 years of age and no older than 4 an a half years of age.  To derive maximum benefit from the casa program children should attend for a full three years from 3 to 6 years old.
